What should you do if you encounter a sick or injured wild animal? Do you know when to contact the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) versus Washoe County Regional Animal Services? Representatives from NDOW will provide an overview of wildlife commonly encountered in the Spanish Springs area, community calls and concerns, and the important role many species play in the local ecosystem. The presentation will address human-wildlife conflict and strategies for safe coexistence, including considerations related to approaching or shooting wildlife and associated safety and legal requirements. NDOW will also discuss how wildfires and other changing conditions can affect wildlife movement into populated areas, and opportunities for residents to support wildlife programs through volunteerism.
